Our Story
Roamstead grew out of a workshop in the Willamette Valley in 2017. Our founder, Marcus Webb, had spent a decade framing houses for other people while renting a room in Portland. He wanted something that was truly his — not a 30-year debt, not a landlord's approval, not a fixed address. He built his first tiny home on wheels in a friend's barn, moved into it, and drove it to the Oregon coast.
What happened next was simple: people kept stopping to ask about it. Not investors. Not developers. Regular people who felt the same pull toward ownership and freedom and couldn't find a builder who understood both at once.
Seven years and over 140 homes later, we still build every Roamstead by hand in our Bend, Oregon shop. We use the same Douglas fir framing, spray-foam insulation, and cedar-accented finishes that Marcus put in his own home. Because the people who move into these homes are the same people we are.

How It's Made
We don't pull floor plans off a shelf. You choose your dimensions, your materials, your layout — and we spend 10–14 weeks making it real. Here's what that looks like.
Every build starts with a two-hour conversation about how you actually live. Do you cook from scratch? Need a full-size bathtub? Work from home? We translate that into a hand-sketched floor plan before anything goes into a CAD file. You'll approve every dimension before we cut a single board.
Standard dimensions run 20–32 feet. We build to RVIA standards for road-legal travel and offer full NOAH certification on request.
The Cascades model — 24-ft, 2-loft design
Our crew of 12 uses steel trailer frames, 2x6 Douglas fir framing, and closed-cell spray-foam insulation rated to R-24. Wall panels are assembled flat, checked for square, then stood and tied in. No shortcuts, because you'll be living in this thing in a Montana winter or an Arizona summer.
We send you a photo update every Friday. You can visit the shop at any stage — most owners do, at least twice.
When your home is finished, we do a full walk-through with you in Bend — every system tested, every finish approved. Then we load it on a flatbed and drive it to your land, your RV park, or your driveway. Delivery is included up to 500 miles; we quote longer hauls at cost.
We stay in contact for 90 days post-delivery to handle any settling adjustments. Your home comes with a 5-year structural warranty.

What We Believe
We build 18–22 homes a year. We could build more. We don't, because rushing is how you produce a home that leaks in its first Pacific Northwest winter. Every joint is glued and screwed. Every roof is tested under a hose before delivery. The wait is 14 weeks for a reason.
Your quote is your price. We charge an $1,800 design fee that applies toward your build. After the build contract is signed, any owner-initiated change orders are documented and approved before we act on them. No surprise invoices at delivery.
We don't sell floor plans. We don't have a Standard Package. Every build is a conversation between you and our design team. Want a Murphy bed and a full-size soaking tub in a 24-foot home? We've done it. Want off-grid solar and a composting toilet? We'll spec the right system for where you're actually parking it.
We source Pacific Northwest Douglas fir for framing, kiln-dried and graded to #2 or better. Cedar accents come from a single-family mill in southern Oregon. Our cabinetry uses formaldehyde-free plywood with solid-wood face frames. We don't use vinyl where wood will do.

Electrical and plumbing lead who spec'd our first full off-grid solar package in 2020. Can size a battery bank for any climate and figures out composting systems as enthusiastically as most people plan kitchens.
